SPECIES PROFILE: Calcinus elegans

The Blue-Knuckled Hermit, Calcinus elegans, is omnivorous. They are a great hermit to add some color to your "cleaning crew". They come in two distinct color morphs. The most common is the blue-knuckled but an equally interesting orange morph is sometimes available. The orange one comes from the Hawaiian Islands. These hermits grow larger than your average "dwarf" hermit, but are by no means giants. Keep a few Turbo snail shells on hand for when they need to change scenery.
C. elegans is an aggressive hermit. They fight amongst each other to some degree but I have never observed any serious damage being dealt, to each other or anything else... Reef safe in my opinion.
